Famotidine competitively inhibits histamine at H2-receptors of the gastric parietal cells thereby inhibiting gastric acid secretion and gastric volume.

Famocid 20 mg tablet is used to treat and prevent stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other acidity related disorders. It also relieves indigestion and sour stomach due to excess acid production in the stomach.
