Medicine Information
About Vertistar MD 8 mg Tablet:
Vertistar MD 8 mg tablet is prescribed to treat Meniere’s syndrome, a disorder of the inner ear.
Each uncoated dispersible Vertistar MD 8 mg tablet contains Betahistine Dihydrochloride 8 mg.
Betahistine
is a histamine analogue and acts as both partial histamine H1-receptor agonist
and histamine H3-receptor antagonist in neuronal tissue.
H1-receptor antagonism improves the microcirculation in the labyrinth, thus
reduces endolymphatic pressure. This action prevents the rupture of the
labyrinth, which can contribute to the hearing loss associated with Meniere’s
disease.
H3-receptor antagonism elevates neurotransmitters levels and inhibits the
activity of vestibular nuclei. Thus restores proper balance and decreases
vertigo symptoms.
